How to measure your inseam
The inseam runs from the top of the inner thigh down to the floor. It gives the leg length of trousers: on jeans marked W32 L34, the L is the inseam in inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm).
How to measure
- Take off your shoes and stand with your back against a wall, feet hip-width apart.
- Hold a book flat between your legs, spine against the wall, and raise it firmly up to the crotch, perfectly level.
- Mark the top of the book on the wall with a pencil, or have someone mark it, then step away.
- Measure the distance between the mark and the floor.
Common mistakes
- Keeping your shoes on.
- A slanted book, or one not raised all the way up.
- Measuring the leg of trousers you wear: it depends on their cut and wear.
